Appealing to the Singletrack unimind –

Does going through airport security scanners and ‘x-ray’ machines wipe or damage hard disks? Want to take a small usb HD and flash sticks should i just stick them in my hand luggage?

    cheers

No. Think of the outcry if everyones iPhones, iPods, MP3 players, laptops etc got blitzed every time you travelled.

just hope your not going through charles de gaulle !

aberdeen – i arrive take out 2 laptops – pass through no bother

CDG – i arrive – take out 2 laptops and send it though the scanner .. seem to cause all hell to break loose !

had to remove my ipod , my harddrive , my power adaptors/extension,camera etc and everything electrical from my hand luggage !. No hassles on the way back either – just going through from the uk twice !

So is it an urban myth that harddisks can get wiped? or have the scanners changed?
