The video I saw was of a driverless car hitting a cyclist. In these cases my opinions follow those I have on wearing helmets now. The burden of responsibility and focus of effort should very much be placed on making people not drive into me rather than me wearing (probably) ineffective PPE.
For downhill and hardcore mountain biking I can see them being of use. Less restriction on movement but in the event of a crash could provide head, neck, back and vital organs with protection.
