Hi All, what tires do you recommend for winter xc racing in mixed conditions (mud, forest, roots, slightly rocky)?

Currently run rocket Ron up front and Ralph’s on my 29er race hardtail so thinking of a Spesh Purgatory up front and Maxxis Beaver on the back?

Any other combos you have experience of?

    Thanks

XR Mud or Storm, or stick with what you have.

Thanks njee! I take it you mean either of those on the back?

Beavers, roll really well, grippy in mud & clear quickly

I’d say mud x if you’re racing round woods etc

I’d use either on both ends, wouldn’t want to race on something like a Purgatory myself. In fact based on my current experiences I’d probably stick with my Rons in all but the most muddy conditions. Certinly if it was just ‘wet’.

Dirty Dans were good in 26″ incarnation too, basically a Storm/XR Mud but a lot lighter.

Move the ron to the back, and nobby nic up front works for me, unless it gets really muddy where upon it’s dirty dan’s front and back.
