Am heading down to swansea next weekend and taking the bike along to get a ride in at afan, have been hearing lots of talk abut diversions there at present. Am looking at riding the W2 or skyline trails, anyone any advise on which to ride and how the trails are with diversions/conditions at the moment?

    Thanks

Hi, yep I’d like to know aswell. small group of us heading Afan next weekend & thinking of W2 or skyline. Any trail closure/open updates would be great!

More singletrack in the W2 trail (which is the wall and whites combined). There is a diversion in place which takes you down the skyline descent, which is brilliant. Skyline is a more ” out there” ride with more forest road and I think there are some significant diversions in place. I’d go for W2 personally.

Wall fully open on Thursday, Last weekend Skyline had an iffy diversion on it’s far side that took in a long and loose fire road descent, and a swamp crossing to the top of the final descents. Far better to either just follow the July trail shortcut, or do it when you rejoin after the fire road descent/ before the junction taking you to Granada (signposts are confusing here as you’re crossing both the original, and diverted trails). Not sure of Whites at the moment, gather it’s had minor changes during the last week, outside of the previous diversion after Energy.

Sigh…once again the Forestry trail update only partially reflects reality.

As of Saturday (17 November), the whole of the Whites climb REMAINED OPEN. No sign of the fabled ‘Darkside B’ being ready yet.

Usual long term diversion to the Whites descent remains in place.

Y Wal is all completely open (I think, didn’t ride all sections). Can’t comment on Skyline as rarely get out that way.

The wall is completely open with the new bits nearly ready, some interesting singletrack coming down and joining graveyard as well(obviously not open yet).

Skyline has been the same for a few months now, eastern portion shut (most of it still rideable if you know it well), but dont take the diversion all the way back to deadwood, take a left on the bridleway where there is a stone drop off in the middle of it to the end of grenada and go down july and do joyrider. The bottom part of the diversion is awful, no idea why its there.

No idea when whites climb is shutting, was still open this weekend as above. If it joins the bottom of energy where the old way used to come down it would mean, if you done the black run, youd have to do that SHIT fireroad climb three times before the final skyline descent.

So would i be right in thinking that when they close the whites climb they will close the skyline decent deadwood down ? as they run pretty near to each other in parts.

Spoke to the boys at skyline cycles yesterday and the situation is that existing whites climb and skyline decent will stay open untill the new whites climb is finished and the work is finished around the whites decent, after that the skyline decent will be re-routed down the whites decent ! simples.

To kind of confirm what has been said above. We rode W2 on Saturday.
The only diversion was that Whites decent is closed. From the end of Energy you have to climb all the back to the top of the White’s climb on fireroad, then over to the top of the Skyline descent. This made a great change, but there was a massive tree down on a very quick part of the Skyline descent which almost caught us out!
