[Closed] Adapted hydro discs to work on a drop bar CX bike as chicken levers?

I remember seeing somewhere (think it may have been linked via a thread on here) a conversion that someone did - Basically they fitted a set of hydraulic (mtb) discs to a CX bike on the tops/flat section of the drop bar (eg near the stem clamp) and then had the brake cable from the sti/ergo clamped to the hydro brake lever so that you could operate them just like a normal CX bike with chicken levers.

Anyone remember that and have any idea where to find it?

whats the point?

just run BB7s with decent rotors/pads/levers and cables.

DBikes had this at Eurobike, where the brake cable bolts directly into a MTB hydro lever, if you want that 'Made In A Shed' look

Ah, yes, that's the sort of thing I was thinking of.

TG - yeah, BB7s are the obvious option - though I'll be interested to see if Shimano will bring out a proper competitor this winter - was just interested to look at the hydro options again.

I think that any hydro road levers Shimano bring out are likely to be in conjunction with Di2/electronic shifting - gives them so much more space to play with in the lever body.

I was talking about some new Shimano mechanicals - the current 505s are pretty clunky.

From memory it was a Planet X Uncle John on the PX website, the link has been posted before in STW, but I couldn't find it.

It was indeed on a planet x. The levers had been drilled and the cable anchored through that so that pulling the sti, pulled the cable and operated the brake lever which then operated the hydraulic.

its was indeed planet x. its been bugging me for a year or two. Yes I could run cable discs but that not the point. I have got some hope hydros with split clamps that are been filed out as we speak, (well last night and tonight.) the hoses come off at an angle so that they don't foul each other and the whole lot can be sited near the stem. they look a lot neater than the bdge jobs that live under the stem. I use bar top brakes on my CX bikes anyway so they retain this feature. there is a weight penalty but so is the one on my gut and the difference between the hydro system and the cable one including bar top levers isn't huge. There are plenty of things thats I could ditch to save a couple of hundred grammes.
If I don't like them I can alwsys go back to V's.

Don't hold you breath!Will it come before the trike that needs a new tube or the very early Moulton that needs a re build.
Actually whats slowing me down is deciding what bars to use. Need to be standard size as 31.8 is just to much for the clamps.That means spending money!

If Shimano can make Dual Control XTR what's the hold-up with hydraulic STIs, can't be that much harder surely? Am I missing something?

If they make them there will be a market, good idea or bad. There are plenty if cyclists out there proudly wearing their emperors new clothes.

There is a market for them, but it's a very small one at present. Even if all cross bikes moved over to hydro discs, the numbers would be small. The price would be too high for everyday roadbikes to use them, and the top end bikes based on race bikes seem not to need them at present, nevermind the wheel change and rest of peleton thing.

I can see them becoming more widespread in a few years, and I would like a mountain bike with hydro drops/stis on, but still a bit niche.
