Has anyone every heat treated their rotors by accident.

Whilst cleaning my bike today I couldn’t help but notice that from just outside the braking surface my rotors Are straw coloured gradually fading back to plan metal. I can only assume I have cooked them good and proper at some point and in advertantly started tempering them.

This can only make them stronger right, although perhaos it would suggest I need to run a larger rotor.

Or perhaps you could stop dragging the brakes. 😉

I don’t think its any great deal. Rotors much more likely to fail from not being properly tightened up, or concave (worn) braking surfaces.

I clean mine with a quick spray and then hold them over the gas hob. They turn a funny colour but doesn’t seem to do them any harm

It’s fine. If the pads didn’t melt, it’s no problem.

Icetech rotors, hmmm, could be an issue.

They are brake rotors – getting hot is what they do for a living!

Stop worrying, leave them alone and just ride
