    Yorkshire’s a big place

Norfolk Arms (Ringinglow) or Cricket Inn (Totley) are good if you are in Sheffield.

Lion Inn on Blakey Ridge is good if you fancy doing Rosedale Chimney (if you’re lucky you could get snowed up there for a week)

Don’t think I’ve ever been in a bad pub in the Dales, but there is one in Wenslydale which we were told is dreadful (“Is it dog-friendly ?” we asked some locals – “Dogs maybe, humans – no”)

A pint of Black Sheep in the Tan Hill is particularly satisfying if you’ve cycled up there

The Black Bull in Boroughbridge Tony. No telly, no games machines, no music, no pool table, just good beer, decent grub, fire, good landlord, good crack with the (sometimes crazy but nice) locals.

Dog and Gun in Glusburn fits the bill for beer/food/fire.

Few decent pubs in Masham or Malham.

The Angel at Hetton is very nice.

Fine as long as you leave before the locals get full of ale. Once ‘entertained’ they end up fighting.

Another vote here for the Lion Inn on Blakey Ridge, cracking food and a nice place to have a drink.

    Chequers at Ledsham tonight.

Maybe a bit too close to home for you though Ton – hardly get warmed up.

Pub in Wensley is nice. Forgot the name, but is the one at the bottom of the hill down from Leyburn.
