Everyone know that there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand and those that don't.
Posted 2 years ago # -
Make that 11, there are also those that just don't care!!

simple maths is based on the assumption that 1+1=2=2*1. I f you take that assumtion to be true then yes 6+6=12.
we had a mths teacher at school who had written a book about it and would discuss it at great length.

So what base are we working in?
Posted 2 years ago # -
Just simple arithmetic...

Just simple arithmetic...
What number of decimal places are you working to?
Posted 2 years ago # -
6+6 = somewhere between 11 and 13 depending on the size and accuracy of measurement of 6.
Posted 2 years ago # -
66?

I bet that's the last time you buy a keyboard from ebay.

What number of decimal places are you working to?
As shown in the sum. Not .6 or .000006. Just 6depending on the size and accuracy of measurement of 6
Assume it is exactly 6.Posted 2 years ago # -
In that case, assuming basic arithmetic and exact values, my contribution to the discussion is...
Correct.
Next.

I'm bound to be wrong, but at least I committed to an answer

Is there a treadmill involved at all?

Base 10,
Exact values,
Set of Real numbers,Yup I'd agree with coffeking

agree here too
Posted 2 years ago # -
Thank gawd - I think we have finally found something that everyone can agree on.

Assuming that:
- the digits are exactly as expressed, rather than being approximations
- that we are working in radix 10
- that that by "=" you mean the equality operator (not the assignment operator)
Then...
I agree with elliptic.

An engineer, a physicist, and a mathematician were on a train heading north, and had just crossed the border into Scotland.
•The engineer looked out of the window and said "Look! Scottish sheep are black!"
•The physicist said, "No, no. Some Scottish sheep are black."
•The mathematician looked irritated. "There is at least one field, containing at least one sheep, of which at least one side is black."--------------------------------------------------------------------------
variants:
•The statistician : "It's not significant. We only know there's one black sheep"
•The computer scientist : "Oh, no! A special case!"Well I liked it, anyway. And the Maths Jokes picture above!
