    Are you sure they just aren’t really short?

    That looks like a hugely complex solution searching for an equally unfathomable problem.

    I was going to but one but for $11,000 I expect a range of ratios

    We had one at bespoked a couple of years ago. Impressive riding up stairs.

    A lefty? EW.

    Do like that it has Saint cranks, for all the sick jumps. (presumably actually for the 83mm bb, but I don’t care for such sense)

    Love it, I “need” one.

    I would love one of those.

    probably a question for the likes of bencooper, but are there really 36″ tyres and rims out there? Or do they take a couple of 29er rims, split and reweld and reform them? But tyres? stitch together a set? how?

    It mentions the tyre are normally destined for uni-cycles, you’d assume the rims were too..

    I have one on my list of frames to build sometime. Pimcycles is the man for 36ers in the UK. Wheel prices scared me off until I’ve got a time slot to make one.

    Wonder how much he charges for the custom helmets?

    Hell of a gear on that too.

    I had a ride on a Blacksheep 36er a few years back.
    Rigid bikes really shouldn’t feel that smooth up and down steps. 🙂
    Just as well as it was rather difficult getting the front wheel in the air. 😕
    The comments about the gearing seem to be a bit unaware of how the wheel size affects gearing. 😆
    Edit.
    No Boost rear end.
    I’m out. 😛

    Yeah, but isn’t 37.5″ the way to go now?

    Handles the same and rolls better, just feels faster basically?

    though I know that some people have also sewn together tyres, as the choice is otherwise somewhat limited (apart from the two listed there, there’s only other option which was only made in a small batch, so may not still be available)

    I’d really like one and keep looking out for one going cheap on ebay – though clearly only with one 36″ wheel

    Yeah, but in America that is totally acceptable.

    I think.

    Anyway, Jesus can do whatever he wants. It’s all good.

    As above its driven by the unicycle thing, where wheel size as gearing as well

    The scary thing is, you can buy 36×12″. OK it’s for 36″ rims on a tractor, not ~32″ rims on a bike, but it’s still a good comparison.

    Makes sense I guess.

    Wow, is the front brake just an ‘eject’ button then!

    Because of the way brakes work, the bigger the wheel diameter the less power they have.

    energy = force x distance
    power = energy / time
    therefore
    power = force x distance / time
    power = force x velocity

    At any given speed a 36″ wheel is rotating slower than a 29er, which is rotating slower than a 26″. So if you apply the same force to the brake you get less power.

    Same argument can be made if you consider the moment (torque) of the rotor, the big wheel is like having a longer see-saw on one side, and constant on the other (assuming you always use the same size disk).

    Double the calipers = double the piston area = double the force, and servo weave probably means it doesn’t affect the throw too much.

    No Boost rear end.

    I dunno, have you seen the size of those hubs! Not so much ‘boost+’ as ‘turbo++++’

    What’s the seatpost? I thought it looked like a thudbuster with the spring removed to get more layback, but it looks like there’s an (orange?) spring in there still?

    There’s more sensible 36ers out there. I’m in touch with the chap behind these – geometry for 6’6″ and above:
    http://dirtysixer.com/

    He’s working on a KickStarter project to make a batch and drive his production costs down. From what I’ve seen, he’s had Ventana doing his framebuilding for him.

    That looks fun 😀 ! Don’t think I’m taller enough and I’m not sure the garage is big enough either.

    In all seriousness, anywhere in the UK that I could demo one?
