Ductile iron pipe that needs to go through 2 bends (45 deg) before entering the power house on a hydro scheme. The first bend needs to point down somewhat from a pipe that has a fall on it. Basically I need to plot the exact positions of the bends and angle they need to be shortly to plot the location of the power House so it all fits together in a few months.

Anyone with 3d CAD help out please?

Eerr, what? Are you trying to solve the lengths and angles?

Sketch it and work up from there.

Post sketches if it’s different question. I don’t have the time to model it for you at the mo, however, sorry.

If its a quick 5 min sketch I’m happy to draw it up for you. If you want a little more detail and a proper drawing I can do it as part of my day job (freelance 3D designer). email in profile

yep trying to resolve angles and lengths in 3d. I’ve got a topo, got a “surface” I’ve made but its all in a package called LSS (surveying package) and its not really built to design with.

    email sent to NickJ.

Sorry re read. Why are you designing hydro scheme without a civil software package?

Hello I am a Hydro engineer with Civil3D (really). I have no time to help you but have a pithy comment:

“You have not provided enough information. I suggest you engage a Civil Engineering consultant specialising in hydro power”.

Here endeth my 100% guaranteed wise internet forum contribution!

Pah. Kids of today. I used to use a drawing board and pencil.

Im not designing it, its been “designed” but i am responsible for the setting out of it. of course, there arent any levels of true designs to set out. I am ensuring the building and flange goes in the right place and the 2 45 deg bends are ok as the “consultant” hasn’t provided enough information to the contractor (as usual)

I just dont want to find out we need a special ductile bend in three months time.

I heard consultants were a bunch of arseholes can you not phone them up and ask?

It’s what I do when the bloody surveyors give us surveys with units set to feet and only half the spec we asked for!

I could do it for you but from what you describe i think i’d be sketching it on a bit of paper as slowoldman suggests.

By the way slowoldman nothing wrong with pencils and tracing paper and scraping and bluerubbers and drawing tanks and drawing rolls and large format copiers and scales ruls and protractors and smoking in offices and abacusses

But when everything by everyone else is done on computers you be a muppet to do the designing in paper!
