2Pure launches ibd only scheme.

Raised a wry smile when I read it was being trialled on Crank Brothers products, from the wording I read it that 2Pure will only be selling CB stuff to independents, but surely that’s wrong?

An interesting scheme though, I’m not sure how I feel about the idea of excluding supply on the basis of size/ownership of a shop.
I’ve never really managed to work out what an IBD is either..

OK, not knowing anything about bike retail I thought it was pretty much a level playing field- if you had an account and were ‘allowed’ to sell the brand you just ordered the parts in.
Apart from end of line/overstock where presumably ease and speed of disposal is uppermost in the distributors mind.

So, what is an Independent then?

It’s something the outdoor clothing companies have been doing for ages.

For example North Face and Berghaus have certain products that are only available to specialist independents and not to the Go Outdoors, Blacks, Field and Trek etc. It means the pile it high sell it cheap brigade don’t totally destroy the specialist independent retailers. It also means the higher end products don’t get devalued by discounters.

I have Crohn’s disease, thought for a moment that I might qualify…
