  • 29er tyres – running tubeless which is better wired or folding?

    Folks, I’m looking for some info;

    I’m just about to sort some tyres for a new 29er build. Looking at either Conti Rubber Queen 2.2 or Mountain King II 2.2/2.4. I’m going to set them up ghetto tubeless, which would be a better tyre to fit, folding version or wired version ?

    I’m doing it this way as I don’t believe UST tyres are required, is this true? I’ve always assumed (and read) that normal tyres can be used for tubeless setup.

    Thanks in advance.

    Folding – the bead is more rubberised, flexible and so seals more easily. Plus they are masses lighter 🙂 And yes, you can use normal tyres – don’t need to be UST. However, the superlight Race Conti ones have quite porous sidewalls and so are a bit of a pain to get sealed.

    I didn’t think the Rubber Queens or Mountain Kings were classed as light race type tyres. I’ve seen threads in the past about having trouble sealing RQ sidewalls due to their porosity.
