    Hi guys, I’ve posted about this before but I’m still banging the drum.

    Here in sunny Langholm in the Scottish Borders (you may well have been through on your way to the lakes / seven stanes, depending on whether you live north of south) we’re organising a weekend of outdoor fun in May including a couple of natural trails for us mountain bikers – a 15 and a 25 miler. They’re part of Evans Cycles Ride It! series but we’ve pushed them on what they usually deliver – no easy bridleway paths here. We’re surrounded by hills and we’re going up them all. We’ve also been out where we can, putting some nice trails through some wooded areas.

    Things are really shaping up and we’re quite proud of what we’ve put together so far.

    Aside from mtb we’ve got sportives (also via Evans), trail running and guided walks. Mark Beaumont is giving a talk on his global adventuring and the local pubs are getting behind the weekend so we’re hoping for a good deal of ‘socialising’ to go down.

    Just wanted to bring this to you folks attention. Feel free to offer feedback and suggestions (had a few from here already, mainly on the beer front – we’re on it)

    We’d love to see a good turn out and personally I’d like nothing more than to see our town and countryside taken over by mountain bikers for a day or two.

    I’m near Selkirk so I’ll stick it in my diary, but you really need something longer than 25 miles for people to want to travel – and lets face it everyone has to travel to get to Langholm.

    I’ve been toying with the idea of entering the 60-mile sportive for a while so if I do I may go the whole hog and do the 25 mile off-road on the Saturday.

    Looks like your event conflicts with the Keswick one

    I’m a maybe;
    a). Not fit enough, recovering from a 2nd dose of manflu
    b) My dad has been in and out of hospital this year and not sure about what’s going to happen in coming months.

    That Keswick one is a bit steep, £45 for a days’ ride.

    b r – People certainly will have to travel to get to Langholm but we hope to make it worth their effort. I hear what you’re saying re 25 miles but it’s really not an easy 25 miles. No footpaths and bridleways here. We’ve devised a track that takes riders up each of the four hills that surround the town. That along with the various events, not to mention the whole social aspect and we think people should have a good time. Besides, I know plenty of people – myself included – who travel many miles to do far fewer miles on man made trails – so I think people are willing to travel out of their way for some bike flavoured fun. Hopefully we’ll see some of them and yourself in Langholm in May.
