  • 2 x 9 – experiences with 26/40 up front

I’m currently running 26-36 on my 9(18) speed 29er, and want to try a 40T instead of the 36. Anyone run a 26-40 set up? Is shifting still OK between the two rings?

    Thanks, Chris

I was lead to believe that 9sp front mech will do up to 14t jumps. I ran 22/36 so it should work…

i think i run a 26/40 with TA rings and it works, don’t use the 26 much so tend not to worry about the shifting.

I have 27/40 with an XTR shifter.

Seems OK but I don’t shift it too much, the faster shift is to the 27 cog when I have hitting some gradient, shifts the other way are normally on the flat so I have more time.

Thanks folks, might just give it a try then – I’m spinning out a bit on the 36.
