    Anyone know cheapest place currently for SLX 9 speed crank triple and assuming a siezed bearing how worn can a crank spindle be until its too worn? Is this fit critical? I can’t help think it can’t be that critical.. what with plastic top hats and such being used.. though they now seem like a good idea to me considering the circumstances.

    Merlin do the 10speed one for £100 which is supposed to work with 9spd.

    Can you feel the wear with your finger nail? The plastic top hat needs some slight interference fit with the shaft, so that the top hat (and bearings) turns with the shaft, rather than the shaft just rotating and wearing the plastic top hat.
