Any ideas what we could do in that area for lunch, a bit of a break from a drive (Wigan to Portsmouth)

Thinking around the Stratford Upon Avon area – sort of half way between Wigan and Portsmouth.

Not wishing to spend it at a service area.

If you have National Trust membership you could try this place. It is our picnic stop on journeys from Manchester to the Southwest.

If you are feeling cheeky the picnic area, loos and café are before you enter the main property, so you don’t have to pay.

Quickest way M6/M42/M40/A34. Somewhere near Oxford?

The Boot Inn used to do a good lunch.

I thought Oxford was a bit too far, Stratford too close, Banbury just about right.

So realistically looking for stuff to see/do around there.
