Priming myself for Juniors 1s christmas present. He’ll probably need a large size.
Obviously I’ll check out Paul’s but where else should I be looking?
    TIA

    For £1k? Hardtail.
If it *has* to be FS, then second hand.

A mate of mine’s just bought a full suss Boardman from Halfords for £800 (usually £1k but they currently have 20% off). Frame looks great, smooth welds, it’s orange and black, tidy bike.

2nd the Bossnut, I have one it leans to the trail side of enduro but it’s very fun.

Slight issue with the tyre clearance which they assure me is being sorted, but other than that it’s been mint. And now I’ve sorted my pressures better it’s not happened on this replacement on the trail at all.

I’d second what flaps says and that the Boardman is a stinking value for money bike.

New Marin Hawkhill looks good to me.

I wouldn’t class the boardman/bossnut in an enduro category.

    They’re lower end trail bikes.

If you want a more “enduro” bike. Describe what you mean by this, what do you expect your lad to be riding? Then I’d be looking at as suggested above 2nd hand bikes like Oranges/Stumpjumper/Reigns and so on.

Check out the canyon website for their outlet store. I wouldn’t get a Calibre or Halfords bike. Your son will inevitably want to upgrade everything within a year, and if he’s a half decent rider, theres a chance the wheels/drivetrain/forks/shock won’t last for long.

If I were you, I would go second hand, the quality of bike you will get will be vastly superior. I sold my 2014 Mega for £1400, I would expect you could find one for circa £1k now.

Boardman comes with 140mm fork, XC is generally less than that but agree ‘enduro’ bikes would still usually have a little more travel and most likely slacker angles.

Why wouldn’t you? All the parts are branded and better quality than you will normally get at that price?

Seen a Boardman in the shop, looks like a very decent bike

Tell us more about laddo’s actual riding though

i have the new boardman pro fs, dont let the 130mm travel put you off its a lot more capable downhill than my old 150mm heckler which it has replaced

    dry roasted,

    I’m looking at getting one now they’re 20% off…

Have you put a dropper on? If so which? What size did you get and how tall are you?

Agreed, it’s a fantastic bike at the price. However, the tyres are poor, the forks are pretty poor etc. To reiterate, for the price it’s great, but he will likely soon want to upgrade.

Looking at what’s available on the second hand market, you should be able to get something decent, with a lot of parts already upgraded. Especially if you’re willing to look at 26″ bikes.

    get this for £850:

and still got £150 spare, and it’s a much better bike.

Thanks gents – riding is typically Laggan red ish although he is progressing.
Second hand is definitely an option and I am a Specialised fanboi so a tidy enduring would got the bill nicely.
    Keep em coming though.

Duh… I’m an idiot.. Just re-read your first post, you mentioned Paul’s cycles there.

Alternatively wait till Paul’s cycles has another Cannondale clear out. 2 mates got £3k Triggers for a grand last year. Awesome deal. There’s a 40 odd page long thread on the forum about them.

Edit… 2k Giant Anthem for £1300 just now.

Does anyone know if the BC discount applies at Halfords if the item is on sale?

Think so. There was a recent thread where people were getting the extra in store.
