    moon on a stick?

I want a bike to train on regularly on the road – 2hr stints 2-3 times per week but also be able to use it for less severe rides than i normally do in teh peaks.
I can’t afford 2 new bikes so was thinking of a carbon race hardtail with slicks/semi slicks on one wheel set, and use my 819s with fat tyres for off road.

Would ideally like a scott scale but i must be able to get 36 months interest free. Any ideas?

Its useful to know your severe rides are in the Peaks

    Why not aluminium?

My LBS has got a lovely Lapierre hardtail for 1500 quid-ish, 3 yrs 0% available too.

It really is gorgeous. And about 23lbs.

Cooksons in Manchester if you’re interested.

Robsworth- if I were buying a new race hardtail I’d have this-

    http://www.trekbikes.com/uk/en/bikes/mountain_hardtail/8_series/8500/

It’s all alloy but that’s not a huge disadvantage- at that pricepoint you’d be better getting a top notch alu frame with XT than a carbon bike with lower end kit.

£300 less gets you heavier wheels and reba forks in a sub 25lb package.

Give me a call tomorrow and I’ll try and beat genks and give you handy race bike hints. 01334 477835 and obviously ask for moi.

Oh, and we can do 10 months finance if that helps, but yeah, just get a card if you want 36 months. That’s a huge length of time to get bike finance for.

I’ve had a £3500 trek carbon hardtail in the past and recently bought the trek 8500 (which was very cleverly suggested by rolfharris).

As mad as it sounds i MUCH prefer the ride of the new alu hardtail…the 2lbs weight difference is fairly un-noticable and the new XT just feels awesome.
Yes the carbon one was a little better come race day but any other ride it would just kill your back and felt mega skittish, the new trek 8500 feels totally dependable, fairly comfy and still VERY quick. I would deffinitely go for the alu hardtail with better kit if i were in your position…it will be a lot lighter than a £1500 carbon hardtail which are suprisingly heavey.

    Hope this helps

A mate of mine just bought a carbon Scott Scale from pedal on – its very nice:

Lots of financing deals too – looks like they’ll do interest free for 2 years.
