I’ve put a KMC linky thing in my 10sp Shimano chain. Apart from being a bit stiff to open (I bought the tool after snipping some skin off my thumb 😳 ) it’s been fine for riding, so far.

I have tried a few brands and like the KMC ones the best. The tool is the best tenner I’ve spent on bike tools for a while !

Yes it’s reusable. Just fit a new one when you replace the chain as it all wears together. I’ve haven’t used a brand other than KMC since I came across their quick links.

i’ve had lots of trouble with KMC 10speed split links. tried to use 4 so far,

1 fitted perfectly, easy to close, no problems
1 didn’t fit at all, ie, would not close without huge amounts of force, then once closed chain could not pivot.
2 closed with small amount of force, needed a tool to close them, both then cracked / snapped on a ride shortly after.

won’t be using them anymore, have reverted back to using SRAM 9 speed links on my 10 speed shimano, no problems at all and work every time.

SRAM 10 speed ‘quick’ links should be renamed ‘slightly easier than joining a shimano chain repair links’.

They are useful in a pinch, but once you have put it on, the process is fairly irreversible!

Unless you use a quick link tool (as mentioned above), in which case it’s easy – have reused my SRAM links loads of times.

Agreed, although I think it slightly defeats the object having to have a specialist tool!

Oh I dunno, it’s much better than having to pein the end of a shimano pin with frozen fingers in the fog, in the dark, in a hole, next to a tree….with an OWL!

Remember, the tool is only really required for opening, which is not a common trailside need. If you have one in your bag then its as easy to fit to a broken chain as the SRAM 9 speed ones.
