  • 10 speed cassettes for a Sram XD Freehub? or change hub?

    Hi
    I have bought a set of fulcrum 29er wheels off crc for £75.
    I will run the wheels with a 10 speed cassette but really dont know much about the XD Freehub.
    Can you buy 10 speed cassette for the xd freehub or is it easier to buy another freehub say shimano?
    Also need qr hub adapters for front.

    You need the freehub made by the hub manufacturer.
    Why not take the plunge and go 11sp?

    XD is 11sp only I believe and locks you into SRAM (expensive) cassettes.

    You can probably get the freehub swapped, but will depend on the hub. Being XD I guess it will be swappable as many would want the option. You’d need to get the relevant freehub for that specific wheel hub.

    GX costs about the same as XT and is better. Try and keep it factual 😉

    it’s a nice shifter and mech 😉 with the spare 10sp shifter and mech you could build a new bike mmmm n+1 goodness

    Better I don’t agree with. It’s a cassette. Both have the range I want. Small weight difference in one I’d never notice. Cost difference that I would.

    With Shimano freehub I get to keep all my wheels compatible and stock up on compatible cassettes, without having to get all the wheel freehubs changed.

    15 quid is ball park for me at that. Not much between the 2 really is there it’s about 0.7p/km and going down for me so far.

    But might not make sense for the OP to spend loads on 11sp to go with a £75 pair of wheels, which I assume are on the basic side.

    Wheels are the fulcrum red power.
    Seem ok for £75. With the code.
    Rear comes with adapter, so it says.
    Need front adapter to qr.
    But I’m hoping to buy the freehub fairly cheap.?

    An opinion. And oddly I’m a SRAM man myself, just I’m not buying into proprietary XD and the price hike that goes with it.

    Will see how it proves long term. Shimano freehub and XT/XTR have been solid reliable for a very long time. The SRAM cassettes while nicely vented look vulnerable to me.
