Looking at building up a bike for the other half and it seems to me to be the ideal opportunity to donate parts off my bike as a way to stealthily upgrade my bike. I’m thinking mainly of Shimano 105 10spd to 11spd conversion (if you can call 10 to 11 spd conversion an upgrade).

The question of the hour is can you run a 10spd front mech with 11spd? I’m wondering if the 10 speed mech is slightly wider than the 11 spd equivalent so shifting might be negatively affected? I’d be using 11 speed shifters.

    Ta very much.

Different actuation ratio, so won’t work.

I know that is the case with the rear mech, but is that the case with the front mech too?

There is no difference with a 10 spd crank/chainring compared to an 11 speed – just a thinner external width on the chain, so the mech has to move over the same amount? I was more concerned around the thickness of the front mech chain-guide due to the difference in chain external thickness.
