Noticed my SLX jockey wheels have lots of play at their axles, especially the lower one. Years ago, you’d replace them when they got shark toothed, but are our modern drive trains putting more strain on the plastic big ‘S’ type ones? What aftermarket ones would you recommend for longevity?

I think from XT up they have proper bearings, instead of bushes. My XT has certainly lasted a lot better than the ones on my Zee (replaced those with spangly Hopes, which have also lasted well).

Edit: sorry, in answer to your actual question, yes, I think they do put some more strain on them.

10 speed xt onwards has bearings in their jockey wheels AFAIK.
