^yeah that. There might be trail maps online somewhere too.

Can do a road or xc circuit too taking in Beachy Head if you prefer?

Basic 20km SDW & Bridleway loop here. Careful along the cliff edge!!

If you’ve got another hour or so, dive into the forest at Friston Pond then back out again at Jevington, rejoin the SDW up to the top again.

Start/finish is at the Red Lion pub, Willingdon, loads of free parking. There is a (pay) car park at the top of Butts Lane, but that is cheating 😉

Ride anti-clockwise in a Westerly, clockwise in an Easterly (like this weekend)

doesnt the hill off paradise drive have a bunch of managed singletrack/trails? or did that end? (Ive never found it despite looking a few times from the top after riding over from brighton to outlaws in eastbourne)

There’s lots of singletrack all over the place, but you need to know where or have enough time to find it, which an hour-odd isn’t enough sadly.

Friston is great, park at seven sisters car park or butchers hole, you could spend a day easy around the forest, Lullington heath and South downs.

Park in Firle village car park (free) take the coach road to Alfriston, climb via Lillington heath and Winchester pond to the top of long man, descend back down to Alfriston via the SDW, then keep to the SDW for the climb on the ridge, keep on till Firle Bostal and the fast road descent to the car.
If you’re not particularly quick, you can cut out the long man loop.

Glad you enjoyed and sorry for not being about to answer the question. It’s open access downland with cycle permission from the landowner the National Trust only between Beachy Head and Birling Gap (there are a couple waymarker posts with bike graphics on in case any busybody ramblers think they know otherwise). Rest of that route is bridleways.

West of Birling Gap over the Seven Sisters remains footpath only SDW. Which is a shame cos it’s awesome!
