A swing by the Kitsbow van at Sea Otter last week showed that, despite the wind and clouds, the young clothing company is thinking about warm summer days.  While existing models may be more appropriate for UK summertime, when the sun shines the new Ventilated Short lets the breeze through thanks to mesh thigh inserts and laser-cut breathing holes.

The shorts’ fabric uses UV-reflecting coldblack technology from Schoeller, which keeps the sun from making dark fabrics as hot as they might otherwise be.  An adjustable waist, understated but well-considered details, and Canadian manufacture complete the $240 pair.

Ventilated Short... ventilation.
Ventilated Short… ventilation.

A new ventilated Base Short, available separately, is lighter than the company’s existing offerings.  Sheer panels make this exclusively an undergarment  and the pad is located with mountain biking’s upright position in mind.  It was black and meshy and looked much like a base short…  so here’s another pic of the outers:

The new Ride Tee is made in Vancouver of either 100% Merino wool or a 88% Merino / 12% polyester blend.  Buttons provide an airflow and the shoulders are reinforced for longer life when worn under a pack.

In 48% Merino wool / 48% polyester /4% spandex mix, the Ride Tee – Topo has a neat graphic in which plaid becomes map.  Otherwise, the relaxed, saddle-oriented cut and features match those in the Ride Tee.

For cool mornings or the occasional shower, Kitsbow’s new Wind Vest is lightweight and packable.  A Napoleon pocket keeps goodies, or tunes, within reach and the look won’t attract undue attention.

In much the same vein, the Wind Vest keeps the core warm and relatively dry.  It’s made in Canada too.

Truly committed to building the best kit possible in a responsible manner, Kitsbow currently ships directly to customers in the US, UK, and Canada.

I hope and trust that lot looks and feels better in the flesh, because it’s pretty underwhelming on my computer screen. Is that boring grey tee-shirt really $95??! I think I bought one of them from Marks and Spencer in the sale for £5.
