Mountain biker nearly falls off cliff.

Video: Friday Crashes

Sometimes you’re just riding along, then fly off your bike, land on your shoulder and slide along for a few metres, putting enough trail rash down one side that strangers stare at you. Like me, last week. To cheer myself up while healing, I went to find some videos of other riders crashing. There were some horrible ones I’ve not put in, but the riders below were mostly unharmed.

Thanks to crunchy yellow leaves and crystalline blue sky, you can get some amazing video on dry autumn days. Here’s documentary footage of a little known pro technique for creating leaf clouds (Warning for those with delicate ears: S words).

Watching this rider almost fall off a cliff, I puckered so hard that I’m now an inch shorter.

The riders above were both sober. Here’s some drunk who was lucky to end up in better shape than his forks. Don’t do this at home folks, not even if you already have an escalator there.

On the list of worst possible things to crash into, I reckon a bear is way up near the top. Especially what appears to be a black bear, as while they’re smaller, they’re also more prone to eating people than other species. Lucky rider…

Here’s a link to a (very large) bonus gif of Anneke Beerten’s crash at the Leogang 2013 4X World Championships.

Have a safe weekend, everyone!

Mountain biker nearly falls off cliff.

David started mountain biking in the 90’s, by which he means “Ineptly jumping a Saracen Kili Racer off anything available in a nearby industrial estate”. After growing up and living in some extremely flat places, David moved to Yorkshire specifically for the mountain biking. This felt like a horrible mistake at first, because the hills are so steep, but you get used to them pretty quickly. Previously, David trifled with road and BMX, but mountain bikes always won. He’s most at peace battering down a rough trail, quietly fixing everything that does to a bike, or trying to figure out if that one click of compression damping has made things marginally better or worse. The inept jumping continues to this day.

Given #1 landed exactly where he was pointed I’m not sure what he thought was going to happen.

Good call on not putting up people getting hurt.
