New Garmin Edge Explore 1000

GPS giants Garmin have announced a new bike navigation system for the modern off-roader.

Ooh new tech

The Edge Explore 1000 features the Garmin Cycle Map with all the usual snazzy elevation data stats, points of interest and of course off-road routes.

As well as navigating, this piece of tech could, to be a bit melodramatic, save your life as it features ‘incident detection’ capabilities with the functionality to work with the Varia line of smart cycling devices.

You can create new routes or download pre-loaded ones from Garmin Connect or third party apps.

But back to safety, this kit provides an automatic (or manual) communication to emergency contacts by using an integrated accelerometer to detect incidents that may leave a rider unable to send a help signal out themselves – handy for when you knock yourself out on a tree branch.

It also has ANT+ sensor technology that includes power meters, heart rate monitors, speed and cadence sensors and VIRB.

All this does come at a price though.

£349.99 has been set as the RRP- which is a pretty hefty chunk out of anyone’s wallet.

Here’s a video that’ll go into more detail:
