This week in Tuesday Treats we’re off to the very fine riding (and cycle shopping territory!) of North Wales. Sometimes being a bit hefty helps and boasting serious square footage of showroom space really helps when you want to be able to actually fondle bike kit. Let’s get to it then. Say hello to Wrexham’s Tweeks Cycles
Don’t forget Tuesday Treats wouldn’t be complete without serving up a quality competition. Up for grabs this week in the regular prize is a GoPro HD Hero Camera worth £299.99, opening up a world of Spielberg-like movie making for the lucky winner.
This week, we introduce Tweeks Cycles:
Born 3 years ago out of a passion for all things adrenaline fuelled, Tweeks Cycles’ parent company is the world renowned motor sports retailer, Demon Tweeks. Based 5 minutes from some of the UK’s best riding spots/roads in North Wales, our staff (10 dedicated cycle staff plus 140 in the background, from accounts to despatch and everything in between!) help ensure our customers are spoilt for choice when it comes to both product range, advice and riding spots.
What’s your current best-selling/hottest product?
XC and Trail riding seems to be becoming more and more popular resulting in a surge in sales of items like the Garmin Edge 500 which has allowed accurate real time and post ride data for the masses, at an affordable price point. It may or may not be a coincidence but Troy Lee Design Shock Doctor knee pads are also one of our best-sellers, people are staying safe out on those trails!
Riders have also fallen in love with the extra security offered by the clutch mechanisms in the new Shimano Zee Shadow+ and Sram X9 Type 2 rear derailleurs, so much so they are flying out of the shop, so it’s a good job we’ve got 130,000Sq ft. of warehouse and showroom to keep them all in!
Which product/brand does every staff member have on their bike?
Do you know how long it took to answer this one? We’ve got such an eclectic bunch of staff that there isn’t really a product or brand that everyone has or uses.
We’ve got road riders, downhillers, XC whippets and then there’s Sam the triplet rider (triplet being the technical term for a 3 person tandem) so as you can imagine not everyone uses the same bits, but that’s just us, diverse and experienced in many disciplines. However, one product that is on everyone’s Christmas list is a RockShox Reverb seat post, every rider should have one. (Yes we did just mention Christmas in September, sorry).
What was the last custom build that you did?
The last custom bike our mechanics had the pleasure of fettling was a Turner 5-Spot in anodised Orange. Dripping with Kashima coated Fox delights, full XT drivetrain and Easton carbon goodies; the bike is a work of art and mechanical genius.
As one of our mechanics (Sam the banana man) is quoted as saying “it just looks like it works”.
Tell us something about your shop/staff that no-one knows…
Ok, random facts you may not know about Tweeks Cycles and our staff:
One of our mechanics (Dave) is actually a beardy magician.
Our showroom manager (Chris) has lost his scale replica Team MS Mondraker bus.
We can’t find the remote for the showroom TV.
We ride in every weather, whether the weather be hot, or whether the weather be cold.
One member of our sales team (Gaz) knows where the replica Team MS Mondraker bus is.
Sir Chris Hoy has popped in to get an autograph from our beardy magician.
Oh, and if you’ve not been to our store yet then you won’t know how friendly and knowledgeable the staff are, and now you do know, don’t be a stranger!
Is there a regular shop ride?
Working 5 minutes from some of the best roads and trails the country has to offer, it would be rude not to have a weekly ride. In fact tomorrow is Tweeks Cycles inaugural Cycle Challenge. Open to all staff, friends and families the concept is simple, spend less than £30 on a bike and complete the blue route at Coed Llandegla, with points being awarded and deducted for spectacular stunts and miserable mechanicals en route. Be sure to follow us on Facebook for all the news on how we get on, and if you are in the area be sure to pop by and say hi!
