This week, we introduce 559 Bikes of Chepstow:
Give us an introduction to your company – who owns/manages it, when was it set up, how many staff, where are you located?
We are an all round town bike shop based in Chepstow for over 10 years. Run by owner/manager/workshop technician/tea lady Sarah, for the last four years. We have two other part time members of staff and we specialise in small-sized demonstration mountain and road bikes, Santa Cruz and Specialized. Our motto is buy the Right bike the First time round.
What’s your current best-selling/hottest product?
Following after the owner’s stomach the new flavours of Clif bar are proving a hit. Endura Humvee shorts are a top seller with Pak-a-jackets coming in a close second. (After all the boring inner tube sales.)
Which product/brand does every staff member have on their bike?
Everybody runs Hope hubs so we can be heard coming and Shimano brakes for the easy pad changes on the trail (which are frequent with all the mud this year!). The Specialized Command Post is our newest toy, with two out of three staff dropping their saddles with wild abandon.
What was the last custom build you did?
A Santa Cruz Carbon Blur XC with full XT 10-speed transmission and Hope Evo wheels. Amazingly it looked just as good after all the mud at Mayhem!
Tell us something about your shop/staff that no-one knows…
Jan the Saturday girl holds the 3 peaks Cyclocross record for mountain bikes from 1986 on a fully rigid steel bike, keeping it real. (This was the last year before they banned mountain bikes in the event.)
Is there a regular shop ride or forthcoming event you think our readership should know about?
The first and third Tuesdays of each month are shop ride nights where we ride off road around the Wye valley, fuelled by Clif shots. It is a social ride followed by beer in any weather. See our Facebook page and web site for more info.
