Soggy Bottom Round 2 – Rescheduled

by 3

Martyn from the Soggy Squad: “On Saturday we had to postpone soggy bottom 2 until this Sunday the 17th a mixture of conditions, forecast and logistical issues made it too dangerous to go ahead. The forecast this week is a lot milder and things round here are already starting to melt so we’re pretty confident things will be ok this weekend.”

Soggy Bottom Round 2
Newnham Park
Sunday January 17

All those New Year resolutions will have an opportunity to be tested this weekend as the first race of the year takes place at Newnham Park – Soggy Bottom Round 2.

A fun but challenging 3.5 mile course will present the 300+ riders with an interesting way to start their mountain bike year and if the racing doesn’t work out then they can always console themselves with a hot cuppa and a bacon roll in the event Cafe… another resolution blown.

The Soggy Bottom series has been providing a staple winter diet for south west riders for the last 6 years with beginners and national level racers enjoying the unique soggy atmosphere and facilities. A large hard standing car park, electronic timing, flushing loos, Hope Sh1t Shifter bike wash man, prizes for top 3 men and women in each category, free Accelerade samples and a large cake for the most successful county in the Battle of the Bottom Borders will mean a good day out for all and a chance to burn some serious calories. Joolze Dymond will be there taking pics of all.

Fun, Grand Veteran and under 16 races are at 1000 and then Expert/Masters/Sport and Veteran at 1300.

Online pre-entry is available at www.xcracer.com

The Soggy Bottom Series is sponsored by Accelerade, Shred, Certini, The Bike Cellar, Plymouth Cycle Scene, Silverfish and XCracer.com

I have been a writer for nigh on 20 years, a photographer for 25 years and a mountain biker for 30 years. I have written countless magazine and website features and route guides for the UK mountain bike press, most notably for the esteemed and highly regarded Singletrackworld. Although I am a Lancastrian, I freely admit that West Yorkshire is my favourite place to ride. Rarely a week goes by without me riding and exploring the South Pennines.
