At 18 Bikes we specialise in mountain bikes but with two NVQ level 3 qualified mechanics we are able to work on any bike, whether that’s your sunny weather road bike, the commute hack the kids’ bmx or your 1980’s Eroica ride.
As well as simple repairs such as gear adjustments and puncture repairs we carry out many jobs in house including:
Full custom builds – Give us a wish list and we’ll make your dream a reality!
Custom wheel building – with several thousand wheels behind us we can advise on the most appropriate parts for your build and our experienced wheelbuilder Matt will make sure everything is spot on ready for that first ride. We can also set your new wheels up tubeless and talk you through the process
Hydraulic brake bleeding – We stock Hope, Magura and Shimano brakes but have the equipment and tools to deal with all leading brands including Avid, Sram and Formula
Bearing replacement – With over a decade of experience removing and replacing bearings we can deal with most brands of hubs and suspension pivots. We carry spares for Hope hubs and Santa Cruz frames
Suspension servicing – We are able to perform fork lowers services, shock air can services, dropper seatpost sleeve services and selected full services in house. For more specialist work we can send your fork or shock to a third party suspension tuner such as TF Tuned.
As well as the workshop located at the shop, we have a fully equipped frame building workshop where we are able to complete frame modifications (such as re-spacing older frames or changing cable routing) and other machining jobs including helicoiling pedal threads in cranks and removing stuck seatposts. We don’t offer set service levels as we usually find each bike requires different work depending on its age and use, if you’d like a quote please get in touch. Labour is charged at £36/hour
