We don’t often do team announcements on grit.cx, but this one has intrigued us a little more than normal. It all started with a cryptic email from Manuel Schulerholz of Bombtrack and this photo:
Who was this moustached gent, and what did he want with us?
It turns out that this is Gosse van der Meer.
Having been racing for Tarteletto-Isorex for 2017, Gosse will race by himself, under the name of Bombtrack Bicycle Co. (powered by Hunt Wheels) for 2018 onwards. The 22 year old Dutchman has been known to Bombtrack for a few years… ever since he won the SSCXEC 2016 in Berlin – this is already not quite the classic rise of a racer, through junior and pro ranks. Having said that, Gosse was a member of a pro Belgian team at the time. Unfortunately, his team switched to focus its entire attention to the road, as a Pro Continental Team. This left the ‘cross specialist in the wilderness, as he attended races during the first half of this season on his own, still wearing team kit and with just his mechanic for support – all done out of a Renault Kangoo instead of a team camper.
Bombtrack have now stepped in to support Gosse into 2018, alongside UK-based wheel brand, Hunt. He will be racing the remaining World Cup, DVV and SuperPrestige rounds, as well as returning to SSCXEU, this time hosted in Koksijde.
We also can’t help but notice Gosse seems to have a new Bombtrack that isn’t in the 2018 range… will we see a race-spec carbon ‘cross bike from the German company next year? We’ll let you know as soon as we have more details.
