Greg’s Knowledge Drop v2.7

Lying in bed. Tossing and turning. Failing to sleep. Stupid brain, stupid ideas, stupid stupid stupid. Why can I not just turn you off!
Don’t get me wrong – I like my brain. I like the intelligence it contains. The years of training through thought, action, reading and learning that have turned it into what it is: a scientific tool that when sharp can allow me to rationalise – evaluate – compute – react – perform. Unfortunately, like many sharp tools sometimes it will cut you.
It can be something as simple as a slightly-to-sharp retort to something someone says. It can be something as complex as calling someone out on something they fully believe to be true – but is not. Or, more often than not it can be the painful self-directed shredding of every single action and possible reaction to a situation.
Over-complication by over-analysis leading to lying in bed breaking down, subdividing and analysing every possibility. None of which I can control.
I wake later, all too little sleep, a groggy fog surrounding my every move. Coffee, black, lines my stomach before the clip/clunk/crunch of the human bike interface leaves the driveway rolling down the dark road towards the simplicity of pedalling.
Lift leg up – push leg down – alternate with other leg. Repeat until finished. Two hours of grit and gravel later, I arrive blessed with a sense of calm that can only come from not thinking. Cycling, the power switch that never fails to work.
Beer of the Week
Moloko Milk Stout – 3 Floyds Brewing Co. – ABV 8%
Moloko Milk Stout

“This Milk Stout is brewed with a portion of golden naked oats and lactose milk sugar to give it a rounded and full-bodied mouth feel. With a deep roasted and slightly sweet maltiness. August release.”

Well, well my little droogies, what do we have here? A little milk-plus, milk plus vellocet or synthemesc or drencrom? No, it’s the Moloko Milk Stout which is what we were drinking. A beer named after part of one of my favourite films of all time. Why not, perfect for a bit of the old ultra-cycling.

I often end up with similar thoughts interrupting my sleep [and I’m also a scientist, so we have enough data points to draw a straight line through 😉 ], cycling is my clear the head too.
