Koga bills the Beachracer as, “a combination of a cyclo crosser and a 29er mountain bike.” With its fat tires and road-worthy handlebars, that statement is quite accurate. While the Beachracer is designed to be raced and ridden on beaches and other sandy domains, this bike can easily conquer gravel roads and trails.
The 7005 aluminum frame sports a removable derailleur hanger, post mount disc brake mounts and a stylish matte black and grey paint scheme. This curious beast ships with a single 32-tooth chainring, an E-Thirteen chain guide and an Ultegra rear derailleur and 11-speed cassette.
Interestingly the Beachracer is run with a smoothish Schwalbe Super Moto 2.35in tire in the back, and a Thunder Burt 2.1 with small knobs up front. Such a configuration means the rear tire will ‘float’ above the loose sand a bit, while the front tire is less likely to wash out in the sandy turns.
A prototype variation of the Beachracer features a Rohloff hub, fender and rack mounts is being shown for the Tour d’Afrique.
