  • XTR M980 2×10 26/38 – can I fit a bash ring with it?

    Hi all,
Looking to change my M970 XTR chainset to an M980 but rather than buy a triple and have to spend money on new rings too, I’d rather get a double to start with.

Looking at the pictures, it looks like there are some removable caps in place of the outer chainring which I assume I could just remove – is that correct?

    Cheers

The removable caps are actually nuts on the 38T option.
With the triple, the outer chainring is threaded and acts as the 4 nuts.
If you fit a bash, you will cetainly need nuts and maybe a complete new set of nuts and bolts.
Shimano Tech Docs show it all.
