new 11-32 sram casette

new 9sp kmc chain

new deore 36t chainring

holzfeller/isis cranks

x7 mech.

i cant shift to 32-36 without the chain jumping off the chainring on the inside?? the chainring looks straight. it happened from first setup and i cant think why it doesnt work. I`d never be able to run 1*9 as it really catches the chainring.

it works on my big bike (well 32 front 34 rear) and it worked on this bike when it was a 2*8 setup (same ratios)?? i cant see the mech being at fault?

any ideas - i'm confused.

why will that solve my problem? i`ll just have a horrible crunchy noise as the chain rubs the front mech?

its the chainring end thats the problem not overshifting at the cassette end.

it's the stops on the front mech that need adjusting.

^ completely missing understanding his problem.

Van, the chain is falling off the Middle ring to the granny when trying to shift to the 32t on the back, correct? If so it may be that the chainline on the cranks is wider than your other bike. Can you fit a shorter BB?

Have you checked the chainline?

Also are you sure the ISIS BB is the right width for the frame, as that would knock out the chainline.

Edited: STATO stealing my ideas...

buggered if i know what bb axle length i need. i got the 'standard' 113 length axle. i see you can get a 108. i`ll have to see if my cranks would work with it.

seems more faff than its worth though. but i suppose that'll teach me to 'upgrade'

why oh why wont someone produce a light 8sp cassette...

So when you go big/big it dumps onto the inner ring, oui? Sounds like a chainline issue.

why oh why wont someone produce a light 8sp cassette...

Because it became obsolete 13 years ago?

You need to go on retrobike and ask for an 8spd XT or XTR.
