If the Chisel is like the slighter more modern take on the Carve that the reviews indicate then that should be a pretty nice bike (my son has a Carve Expert).
At different ends of the XC / Trail sliding scale (imho) would be the following 2 bikes. The Whyte 629 that looks a really fun/playful bike. For XC mile munching and at the more traditional xc geometry end of the scale, a friend of mine picked up a Forme Alport, I can’t recall the model but it was black with red graphics. He uses that for long distance XC rides and is really happy with it.*
*previously had a slack, longer travel fork, 650b HT but found that less suited to his riding.
