[Closed] What's the most technical trail in England? photos please.
????
I doubt there is a most technical trail, I assume you wouldn't count something that was so teechnical it was unrideable? Eg, the run off Grisedale Pike down to Braithwaite is pretty technical at the top. So technical that I expect you'd die if you tried it.
The hardest trail I've ever ridden is the descent off Causey Pike in the Lakes, once you've lowered your bikes downt he cliffs from the summit it's very steep and very rocky, but a healthy mix of loose rock you can slide through and death rock that will kill you.
for a wheels on the ground type: Scafell Pike - the top is one big rock fest.

b) Cam Road, Hawes:

still thinking of more...
Jacob's Ladder. Upwards.
SFB, always the perve ๐
Not ridden it but there was some amazing pics of Rosset Gill in Langdale on here that looked pretty damn technical.
Most technical bits I have ridden in the UK were probably on Dollywagon Pike. There is a short bit that's quite steep and techy on Borrowdale Bash as well.
Didn't think Scafell Pike was rideable at the top??
Not legally anyway...

I don't think that's rideable ๐ Yes, Dollywaggon is very technical, in fact it looks like it's been built to discourage bikes!

excuse me, that is my little boy ๐
Dollywagon is good but Rossett is harder. Anyone rode down Grisedale Pike to Braithwaite?
Not perhaps the most technical, but certainly a challenge.... the Ullswater path down the non-road side....
ACE!
Big step followed by ditch on Dollywaggon:

it's a scramble off the top but alright not long after.
I had assumed one would push up there from the Altura and then go down Hobcarton...
So is a technical trail just 'really steep with loose rocks' to most people ?
I regard technical as something that needs a wide variety of skills to get round it, typically I'd try and find as many of the following:
Steps (up and down), off camber rooty corners, short sharp changes in gradient/direction, a good variety of riding surfaces, plenty of tree dodging and maybe a few jey jumps/drop offs and the occasional bit of woodwork......

Sounds like Stainburn
How about some of the dh tracks out there? are we talking about the track you need the biggest balls, or the best handling skills for?
Doctors Gate?
that's the closest I've ever been to death exactly there Kit! I came round the corner drifting both wheels and just managed not to go over the edge :o) [at the time, 1998, it was smooth and rideable there]

So what's the most technical trail in England according to your criteria then?
I remember the drop from Watendlath fell down to Thirlmere being stupidly difficult. Having carried my bike up Rossett Gyll on the same day, I can definitely vouch for it's difficulty too!
hilldodger ...off camber rooty corners
I think you should change your name to treedodger
My definition of technical is "hard to ride without falling off (or wimping out)"
simonfbarnes - Memberit's a scramble off the top but alright not long after.

Going from Braithwaite - Barrow Door - Outerside - Sail - Crag Hill - Sand Hill - Grisedale...Sleet How , (but yes, Hobcarton is a better descent I think).
How about the descent through Rigg Quarry...
...from High Spy down to Grange in Borrowdale. Painful and impossible for me ๐ฅ
Great pics. Some of those routes look distinctly buttock clenching!
Aye, keep them coming ๐
SFB- I meant the nice looking lady
Those long rockfests look amazingly hard work, possibly quite slow, but probably very rewarding.
Not perhaps the most technical, but certainly a challenge.... the Ullswater path down the non-road side....ACE!
+1, did it last week, great fun.

Ah, you mean the relentless rocks undullating steps the length of the Lake? AGREE.
Buzz - I suspect the "nice-looking lady" may actually be SFB's little boy - careful now. I'm sure he'll be along to clear up any confusion...
SFB- I meant the nice looking lady
ah, the delightful Jane - I fell in love with her - shame she is half my age ๐
SFB, she is nice looking. Saying that, we went for a ride a few weeks ago and there was a cracker on the ride (no names/ride etc mentioned as I dont want to embarrass the rider!)
blimey - that Rigg Quarry looks 'ardcore!
Anyone descended down from Hinsgarth down to little town?
Parkin Clough. Peak district.
For me technical isn't just rock fests it's something which requires skill and balls. There are some natty DH courses out there which require both but a big bike helps a great deal (right tools for the job etc).
Personally I'd say Herts Shore has been the most technical I've ridden, and seen, and its something which can be ridden on any bike (except for certain bits)
dgrider - MemberAnyone descended down from Hinsgarth down to little town?
I've walked it, and a few of the KMB Tuesday night guys rode it not long ago (are you there Stoney ?). I think it's only towards the bottom that you might have to walk a section (or two).
Anything technical that isn't boulder-based?
There are some EVIL towpaths around London let me tell you, one mistake and you're finished
one mistake and you're finished
due to escaped Piranha ๐
Princess Diana's seatbelt on Leith Hill....
Some nice photos (and good choices of technical trails) in the stuff above but there's plenty of trails in and around Calderdale which would piss all over those from a great height!
Different kind of tech though, not the wild remote rocky tech in the Lakes, much more tight steep loamy singletrack.
the one i found down grizedale the other week!
Started off with a small bog
Then a few medium paced messy corners
Followed by what felt like miles and miles of roots, not just a few isolated twigs, a whole hillside covered in roots as thick as my arms and legs and a track worn over/through/arround them!
Before being spat out onto a stupidly fast gravel section i'd ridden before, the only limit to speed is how many corners you dare let off the brakes before untill the sensible part of your brain tells you that there could well be a walker/dog/drystone wall/slippery wooden bridge arround the corner (all were found!)
Seemed to be everything a trail center isn't condensed into 3 miles of singletrack!
To find it look for the bridleway going through "lawsons park"
You need to go to Scotland for that.
Fort William DH is pretty tech.
Stake Lane down into Mytholmroyd is pretty nadgy.
Princess Diana's seatbelt on Leith Hill....
What is that and where on Leith Hill?
mikey74, if you were standing at the tower looking south. follow the fence down to the right and around to the area with picnic tables etc. There is a small gap/gulley in the shrubs by a thorn bush. look down there and all shall be revealed....
ah cheers mate. I will have a look next time I am there.

sssssshhhhhhh! ๐ ๐
[s](Said it before, Calderdale&Hebden is the rocky-northern version of the North Downs/Surrey Hills).[/s]
Its flat- nothing special and full of lezzers.
Fort William DH is pretty tech.
its long, fast and brutal but its certainly not a tech track...
Very strange question
if you mean already established trail then I can understand ..but otherwise technical could mean any route however dangerous that you are prepared to go down !!!
Stake Lane down into Mytholmroyd is pretty nadgy.
S'not that bad, most of it is jumpable. Bit vague at the bottom at the mo due to long grass.
Yup got to admit Calderdale has some what I call technical riding, I love a rocky decent but not really technical as such unless there's rocky steps and drops with tight turns.
Thrunton woods has some cracking technical bits in well on par with Calderdale and one hidden bit that reminds me very much of Verbier.
Parkedtiger - still laughing at "oh grass, i love you"
Sprinkling tarn to styhead then Stockley Bridge to seathwaite pretty tough but all rideable. Rossetts gills wayyyyy to mental to realistically be a bike route for me. Dollywagon pitched section definitely up there in the lakes the big drainage trough(you'll know which one if you've come down it ๐ฏ ) always traumatises me!! Whiteless pike front to buttermere all rideable and has a couple of seriously techy sections. All lakes though plenty similar in scotland and wales I should imagine.
This gives no impression just how steep this part is but a rough idea of Thrunton.

Thanks for all your suggestions. Glad no one has listed Dalby...

Would you believe I didn't go over the bars last night - a first ! ๐
