Look, see it? Quite high, about SWish.

It's moving very slowly. I don't have owt powerful enough to zoom in on it. Anyone out there with something to get a look at it? Or have any idea what it is? It's been there for some time, now.

Sattelite? Bit too slow, I think. Comet? Planet?

Bloody Martians trying to bypass immigration??

Quick; it's clouding up a bit.

It's inexorably slowly moving West. Just one bright light.

Can't be any normal aircraft; it's been there for ages. Even a plane really high up wouldn't be moving that slowly, indicating it is perhaps some distance from Earth.

Youse lot will be sorry, when they take over your foolish doubting minds.

And then it'll be too late!

I'll be ok, though, 'cos they'll recognise superior intelligence.

Ah well, not what I saw then. What I saw had lots of lights on it and was moving at a reasonable speed.

Of course it might of been on it's way to the Mother-ship - which apparently is parked up somewhere above you.....

One single bright light? Are there any clouds? What directions are the clouds moving in?

You might just be seeing venus and be fooled into thinking it's moving West?

Venus, you say (first actual intelligent, possibly helpful response)? I dunno. It's definitely 'moved' westwards. Disappeared now, as some cloud has come in.

It was there, I tell you...

I reckon it be a blimp.

I am not going to go out in the cold and look however. I shall send my gentleman's gentleman out to have a look.

In the meantime, I leave you with this;

Blimp wooduv had more lights on't. And this thing has taken over an hour, to move just a few degrees across the sky.

(RudeBoy realises that without proof, people will think him to be a mentalist...)

'Interplanetary most extraordinary craft'

Errol Brown said

'it floated there in front of me - it wasn't an illusion - no doubt about it,'

It's reappeared again! Lower in the sky, now, and more or less bang due West.

Anyway, I'm too upset by the unkindness on here.

Yes! And pale gold in colour, although this could be the pollution. and I've seen satellites before; they are nowhere near as bright, and move more quickly, perceptible in just a short viewing.

Venus? Ooh, how exciting!

Thanks, druidh and Cheesy!

Some of youse lot are just mean and nasty, though.

Found some info:

Venus is a brilliant object setting in the West more than four hours after the Sun at the beginning of February. The planet resembles a pure white non-twinkling aeroplane light.
Through a telescope the planet shows a crescent phase. Venus is now approaching the Earth so it will become larger. However, at the same time its phase gets smaller. These two effects mean that Venus is at its brightest on 19th when it will be 16 times brighter than Sirius, the brightest star. This star is visible in the South East and can be found by following the three stars in the belt of Orion downwards.

Venus continues at its best evening apparition for 2009 but is now beginning to move in towards the evening twilight. By the end of the month, the planet will be setting three hours after sunset.

(Waits for all the nasty ones to apologise...)

Into astronomy (in a very amateur way, I hasten to add!) So would appreciate a pic but would go for Venus (the god of love BTW) as others have said. Knowing London skies though (or lack of due to light pollution) possibly something more man made.
[img] [/img]
My photo of Venus and Jupiter (God of Love, God of war-for the hippies among us!) taken sunset one evening last month. Oh the joy of not living in a light polluted big town!

Yes, it is Venus. I checked after seeing it above home last week, I thought it was a police helicopter chasing neds on motocross bikes.

Then I saw it in the same sort of place in the sky above Glentress last week, was proper bright.

So I looked it up on the internet.

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/court_and_social/article5605609.ece

Caution - do not look up Venus on Google Images with safe search off.

EDIT - the photoshop of Venus and Serena Williams is no longer on first page. Phew.

(Gives Aleigh big hug back)

Well, I thought it was exciting, anyway. I like stuff like that. Saw a Space Shuttle once! Bit far away though. Just a dot of light.

Don't worry, Hora. I'm not a fiend for spirits. Bit hyper today, though.

Venus you got right, but Jupiter was the King of the Gods. Mars is yer God of War.

Do they teach nothing these days?
