If you remember I said that one way to help us at Singletrack would be by filling in the occasional survey. I’ve been adding some mini surveys to some of our stories over the last week – thank you if you have seen and filled one in. I’ve gathered a whole bunch of our questions on this page here…

The fun part is that I’ve set each question to reveal the answers after you have submitted yours. Again, this sort of info really does help us and will help a great deal in the future when Google finally deactivates 3rd party cookies.

Ooooh a course on “when to slowly place the keyboard on the ground and take two steps backward”?

    The reveals are nicely done.

Fairly innocuous so far. For cost of latest bike, I answered for what I think the roughly equivilent bike would go for (most parts I did buy new at some point in the last 4 years), but no option to indicate my thoughts that buying a complete bike is usually terrible value.

Can’t wait for the more divisive surveys later on. Pick a tread pattern and be a dick about it.

Are you a Singletrack Full Member?

It may have been worthwhile adding a ‘Yes, but thinking of cancelling’ button? Just to find out if subscribers are dissatisfied.

Done! I was surprised but not surprised by the ‘how many bikes do you own’ answers 🤣

I’m guessing the info from those of us that say we’re full members (and that was the vast majority of responses when I filled it in) needs stripping out for some uses as we won’t be seeing the bulk of the advertising….

I did it but unless everyone is picking the exact same as me then the graphs are just showing which one I voted for…I’m hoping I’m not that close to what is considered the normal in here.

Mr average! Most of my answers were quite different to the results shown.

Wow. The household income kinda explains why I feel so out of place here!

Mine will look odd. Tiny income and expensive bike

    Desperate bicycle

Hardly a suprise given attitudes and the vehement insistance that £ 50 000pa is not rich that is a constant theme

It’s total household income they’ve asked, not the forum members salary. Could be x4 people earning £25k a piece.

3 working in our household puts us in that £50k – £75k band.

Does show a fiver on subs would be pretty much fine though! 🙂

Wow. The household income kinda explains why I feel so out of place here!

Given the typical age of most STW’ers, a large percentage of households will have more than one earner, 2x people at 30k a year isn’t ridiculous, in fact I’d say that’s probably fairly normal.

One person in a skilled profession earning £40-50k then add in an older child still living at home, probably earning £20k+ and you’re at £100k combined quite easily…

People do it though.  One of the things you are going to have to do is to work out how to exclude that data.  I do it on sites for for surveys that annoy me.  Not so many people fill these things in so it’s fun to skew the results.  The stuff I filled in here is completely correct though

Yes, I’m surprised this isn’t a question tbh. I think the 20-somethings are going to be the minority!

I reckon ‘how far away are your nearest proper mountain biking trails’ or ‘how far do you travel to ride’ type questions would be interesting too. From the riding pics threads it often feels like every bugger has Munros on their doorstep, or Enduro trails ending in their back gardens, whilst I have some bridleways and a few xc trails and have to drive for hours to get to proper hills.

Oh totally get that. The weight of numbers will diminish those who seek to bugger the results so it’s not really an issue I’m overly concerned about.. But to do it and THEN announce that’s what you did? Not nice.

Income one will be a bit meaningless without other details.

As above a married/cohabiting couple both working full time on an “average” wage could easily get you well over 60k.

A single man or woman would be in the upper bounds of wages to match this.

Retired or semi-retired would give a low number but with, for example, house paid off, kids left the nest, gives a good chunk of disposable income for that wunderbike, and the time to ride it.

It’s fine. Household income is an age old marketing target metric.

Oh an age survey is now up. I’ve added it to the top of the page.

I’m now wanting to see what other questions I can come up with just to mark mark add them….

    Number of rides per week?
    Average mileage

Split between road gravel and mtb….

May be worth something along the lines of ‘where did you buy your last bike?’ – online, second hand/forum/marketplace, LBS, chain etc.

Can you put a ” how many miles have you ridden this summer?” I want to win something. What do you mean its all about taking part? No prizes?
