It says “Electro Luninescense” on it, it’s proper 80’s style, and it’s got to be silver like the cool bling kids back in school. What more do you want from a watch?! Out of that lot, what would Kraftwerk wear eh? These are the only deciding factors..
Funny enough after my Citizen died on me went swap the battery and left the store with a w 59 . The illumination is rubbish but love the retro appeal go for it
You can get tough solar g shocks for c£55 new or half that 2nd hand and they will last years. I’ve a gw6900 and it’s a bargain £58 or so on amazon right now. The quartzs are cheaper again, worth spending a few quid etc for a keeper for a few years 🙂 Or this….
I sport a W-86, its my Go To watch for the minimalist, non Strava / smartphone activities. Its not perfect though, the chronomater only records a single hour, so for anything over one hour you have to remember when you started, kind of defeating the object of a stopwatch. The light is good though.
I did buy a second hand G Shock a few years ago, it was cheap and it was bought to scratch that itch I’ve had for many years. Unsurprisingly I never wear it as its too big. My wrists are too puny to carry it off and it catches on all my clothing. There’s no need for a watch that over-built.
If it was my money I’d go for an illuninator version of the W-59
Haha. Think the op was doing a parody of a typical STW bling watch thread, and it turns into a typical STW thread anyways! – NOOO, Don’t get something simple and cheap like you asked for, get a proper ugly lump that is more expensive with more buttons n stuffs!..

It’s an affectionate parody of the posh watch threads, but serious too:
I really love my F-91W’s – they’re a practical, classic design that costs less than a tenner.
They work perfectly and are used by all kinds of people all over the world, including lots of people who could afford something much more expensive.
I bought a nice G-Shock, to scratch an itch, as Pieface put it.
I really like it & I might get another one day, but the cheaper Casios are almost as good and so much cheaper.
They’re just nice things to own, too. 🙂
Nice to see the love for them on here. 😀
I’m leaning toward the W86 at the mo, but the DBC32 databank for £25.00 is very tempting:
No, I get it RS, I don’t really like watches much, but I love a good old simple casio. Speshly with the Electro Luminescence 😉 I don’t get the databank, K.I.S.S
And just to make it even more retro, I queued up, in Argos, and paid in cash (£15.00!)
It’s great. 😀
Slightly thicker than the F-91W, and the display isn’t quite as good (slightly darker background) but the proper backlight makes up for it.
I picked up a Casio Databank watch after a gig at Bristol Uni once. The strap had snapped and I saw it and just grabbed it, there was no-one on security so I took it home. When I cleaned it up and looked at it I realised it had a bunch of phone numbers on, including ‘Home’, so I phoned it, and explained to the lady who answered that I’d found a watch at a gig with her number on, and was it her son or daughters. Turns out it was her student son’s, who was thrilled to bits to get it back when I returned it.
Got a few extra karma points for my good deed. 😀
