The price of Finishline Dry lube seems to have skyrocketed recently; it’s nearly 8 quid for 120ml (4oz). Locally there are some good deals on the same lube as an aerosol (3xs the amount for a few pounds extra). However, I don’t really like aerosol chain lubes,it seems a messy and wasteful way of applying lube compared to a drip bottle.

So, a couple of questions, could I spray some of the aerosol lube into an empty drip bottle and use it that way; I assume that the aerosol propelant is also the solvent, would I just end up with a bottle of oil and no solvent and not be able to apply it effectively?

Also, would a 12oz aerosol actually give me 3xs more lube over a 4oz bottle, or is it a case of the propellent accounting for some of the volume?

But will I lose the oil carrier if I spray the aerosol into a drip bottle?
