The discussion on Utopia made me think. There must have been loads of other mini-series over the years that were well regarded but passed me by. Anyone have any recommendations?

I’ll start the ball rolling with a couple:

The Lost Room. Great little slice of contemporary weirdness.

Ultraviolet. Late 90s vampire romp, I remember loving it at the time though TBH I’ve not seen it in forever. I should revisit it really.

    What have you got?

Not really a ‘mini-series,’ so much as the British idea of a series; there’s two of them. Could argue that Red Dwarf was a mini-series, for instance. I really should have defined my terms better, I’m talking about things that were only ever intended to be a self-contained handful of episodes.

Pedantry aside though, agreed, Spaced is amazeballs.

I really enjoyed Awake and The Confession was alright for a mini mini series – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Confession_(TV_series)

If you’re a Frank Herbert fan the two mini series (Dune and Children of Dune) made were pretty good, fairly true to the books as well. Shame they never made any more (also start James McAvoy before he got all famous n’that).

One of the best things on the telly, ever.

Out on DVD, well worth picking up.

An Aussie series called Blue Murder in the 90s (maybe early 2000s) was amazing. Still got it all on VHS.

Shogun. Not really underrated, but quite old and easy to overlook.

And is also a mighty fine book.

    No Heroics Wiki

No Heroics, genuinely funny and on ITV2, who’d have thought. Didn’t get recommissioned though.
