    Nice.

I rode one at Laggan a couple of years ago, and have wanted one ever since, but for some reason bought a Whyte instead. I know, I know, entirely different kind of bike.

I’m not sure how much longer I can resist the pull.

What fork is that? Have you tried it with a 160?

I’ts a revelation team 150mm. I haven’t tried a 160mm yet , but I have a Lyrik with a 2011 Damper just fitted by Fishers in the garage. Just screaming to be fitted 😆

I had a 2009dw which developed a crack on the weld at the bottom of the downtube after about 6 months use . . .

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/ziplockk/4968670444/

    The front frame was replaced with a 2010 version . . .

Which is different in the area of the crack . . .

    Fingers crossed . . . great bike tho’ . . .

    Another ‘proper’ horst-link 5 Spot

The rear shock’s been swapped for an RP23 since then, and the front fork was swapped for a Revelation, and now a Pike air. They are such brilliant bikes to ride – I was smitten after my first test ride up in Aviemore, and I still hate the thought of it dying and having to be replaced.

1996 Burner still going strong. She’d had new bushings mind, and is on her fourth pair of forks and third shock. I believe (having enjoyed Privateer) the term for an old frame with modern components is ‘hot-rod’

re the cracking of 08 DW frames. I have seen two do this now in the same place-at the base of the seat tube, but Turner have changed the design in this area and added a gusset which has fixed this problem.

    Nice bikes

cracked i frame at the downtube, 1 set of rocker arms and bent 1 rear triangle. Still have it now but never really ride it. Just ride hardtail all the time recently. I might get round to using the 5 again but will prob look at spendin some money lightening it up from its 32lb guise just now

My 05 Spot avec Horst Link goodness.

Zedsdead, frame’s now for sale – it’s a large, and it’ll be perfect for you.

I’ve just sold the CCDB that was on it, though, so at the moment it’s got no shock at all on it.

Let me know if you’re interested.

Thought DW link was introduced in 09? I’m curious to see what they changed to cure the cracking problem.

mudmonster – you can see the small brace they added at the foot of the shock/seat tube below the front mech collar on mine in this pic.

No problems with my first generation DW Spot. If I do get any issues I know I’ll be sorted out, maybe with a 2011 frame 8)

    No squeeks or creaks either.

Thanks for the pic. I’m after a flux, think they have changed that too. I’m only 9 1/2 stone so I might be ok.

No, yours was a spare, I got a full back end and a spare stay off fleabay for £100 and built up another with a 08 raw front end from turner in the us, the spare stays were a garage wall ornament til I heard the cry of despair from your post so decided to share the love rather than keep it hidden away,
I’ve had the red one since feb 04 and she’s still good to go, and when I pop my clogs she’s coming with me 😆

The old one was just better. I broke it after 5 years at the taco weld on the seat tube and replaced it with the new one. A fine bike but they shortened the top tube a bit and it isn’t as easy to manual. If I could buy a large old style front triangle, I would happily run the original again.

    Cheers

    Sanny
