I have many misgivings about the flurry of activity around International Women’s Day. I wrote about that back in 2017, and it still stands. However, I am a woman in a (still) male dominated space. What’s more, I have a platform, and I feel like I should use it.
Today, there will be positive stories published all over the place about the great achievements by women. There will be Instagram posts where companies ‘showcase’ their women. Look, we’ve got one! This is, to an extent, great. It’s a day when there’s a flood of great examples of all the different great things women can do.
But without change it’s all just noise. Corporate showboating. A sticking plaster. A token effort without any introspection.
This year’s theme is ‘Accelerate Action’. And yet, I find the words I wrote all the way back in 2017 still as relevant today.
Instead of me adding to the noise with a bunch more words, I invite you to find a moment of quiet and ask yourself what you can do to ‘Accelerate Action’. It’s not what happens today that matters, it’s what you do tomorrow.
