Looking to shed a few grams and quicken up my Trance for spot of racing 😀

Thunderburts seem to get a general thumbs up.

If running a TB on the back what would folk run on the front?

I’m currently running an Ardent F and and a SB8 rear.

Or have I gotten it all wrong and should be considering something else? Not meant as a thinly veiled what tyre thread 😳

And as everyone likes a picture this is the bike in question:

I usually pair with a Ron or another Burt.

Is there really enough grip to run one on the front?

Yes. They’re a little slidey, but manageable. I prefer a Ron for most riding though, you can push harder.

I paired it with a Hans Damph front and it was great for speed and grip round South Downs parts. Really liked it. Put a big gash through the centre tread running down a fast flinty stretch and found fitting and removing on a Stans Crest rim bloody hard work. Poor impulse control meant I took a knife to it in an embarrasing display of how not to remove a ‘difficult’ tyre.

a hans 😆 what made you do that?

i never paired mine with anything but a matching front

Ralph? Or if you don’t mind not matching brands then I found the Bontrager XR1 to be fine on the front in most conditions. Spesh Renegade and Fast track also look like a decent tyres, and likely cheap.

I just tried a thunderburt on the rear and a ralph yesterday.

My observations were that they were both slidey in the wet surface mud.
Also that if you were to get a matching thunderburt on front then be ready to be ready for the inevitable if going near wet dirt.

i.e. get soemthing a bit more bitey on the front too.

I race a Ralph front and TB rear which works well, if more grip needed then a Ron front and Ralph rear.
