the unfortunate folks in the russian plane that disintegrated in mid air must be a little puzzled.. while the media position themselves over every concievable reason for a plane falling to bits at 31000 feet not one is using the B word or or even the E word.. surely its not a great feat of imagination to see that a group recently the target of millions of rubles of munitions is agrieved to the point of stuffing a suitcase with B or E in it on a russian plane?

I don’t see how dancing and gurning could bring down a jet 😕

(bomb, however, for sure I reckon)

Thing with that is you claim itit, release a video of it and get the publicity, it’s not happened. One group tried to claim missile but was not deemed able.

Coz Putin will come round and pollonium your tea if you say that he may have made a mistake getting involved in Syria

    (E = erogenous I reckon)

Because so far they have no evidence of a B or E? (…yet)

    The IS tweet apparently said:

“The fighters of the Islamic State were able to down a Russian plane over Sinai province that was carrying over 220 Russian crusaders. They were all killed, thanks be to God,”

No mention of a bomb or any “martyr”.

I don’t think they claimed it was a missile, specifically, just that they downed it, though it was noted that the claim didn’t come through normal IS channels, the associated video has been poopooed etc

That being said, simply claiming it was terrorism, is spreading terror, Russian and Egyptian tourist industries will suffer, Russians may start to doubt the wisdom of becoming involved etc
The internet love a conspiracy and already there’s a tit for tat blame game between Egypt and the airline, Russia’s media censorship reputation , fertile ground for the conspiracy types

    Breaking and entering?

No-one’s said anything because it’s too soon – people on the internet are coming out with all sorts of shite as usual though, what’s your point?

We are already discussing this on the other thread. French TV have been speaking about a bomb being the most likely cause all weekend

I don’t understand the code, is the B something to do with the size of the plane’s wheels?

214 people are dead so it seems a bit soon for midair decompression jokes no ?

The implication that it’ll be right at some point?

Either humor is a perfectly good coping mechanism, or it’s not. We’re not Russia, we don’t need to be told “there will be X official days of mourning* (then you can tell jokes)”.

    Crap joke, but I chuckled.

*speaking of which, what does that actually entail when heads of state announce “X days of mourning”, is it an extra bank holiday? I never recall anything like that in the UK ever being said in the UK?

Not really. People die all the time, millions every year. I don’t see anything special about this lot.

Jokes probably are in bad taste, but the cryptic B & E in the OP kinda set the tone

Short memory? No official call for mourning but I remember a couple of days of bloody awful pap played on the radio a while back – jeez it was 18 years ago! – and being shushed in the pub during the televised burial procession. Unofficial mourning 🙄

*well whatever station work was tuned into anyway.

We had a jazz band playing at our pub during her funeral. It was prearranged and the guv wasn’t gonna change anything

I’m not sure a bunch of Hampshire network architects really need humour as a coping mechanism for the plane crash as they probably don’t have much grief to cope with

Radio 1 alternated between The Aloof, One Night Stand (instrumental) and a verve track I think. Neither of which were particularly appropriate.

Is disappointed. Opened thread to read about more masculine posturings from the British Enduro series handbaggers.

Unlikely to be puzzled given their current status.

might have been key103, candle in the bloody wind on heavy rotation mixed in with other maudlin shite.

So is B&E bombs and explosions or what?

The Egyptian government has asked people to stop shop speculating about caused. And

Tass cited a source saying that “elements that were not part of the plane” were found at the crash site. They are being analysed – whether that is from a bomb or simply some luggage is unclear.

Great, now the NSA has broken the code. Well done Edward SnowD0NK.

hang on how do you get an E into a suitcase – it’s kind of got beyond containment at that point hasn’t it?

Anyway, I don’t know that it’s not being mentioned- there was a prominent article on the BBC the other day with some possible causes, one of them being a B.
It’s not super surprising that people are trying to avoid jumping to conclusions, although it’s probably the first thing most people thought of.

cheek graham, was wondering whether there was some more specific B&E to which the OP may be refering.

No doubt some tinfoil hatter will be along in a minute to suggest Putin arranged for the plane to be bombed in order to strengthen feeling against them thar muslamics thus justifying his war on terrorski. After all, what’s a few dead Russian tourists? There are millions more where they came from.

Just sayin’ as Jivehoney would infer….

Come on footflaps there has to be an inappropriate punch line, I’m just trying to resist putting it.

    I’m guessing B = Bomb and E = Explosion.

I thought similar to the O.P. “Likely that it broke up mid air” is the strongest language I’ve heard so far. Rare (and admirable) restraint from the UK media.

As MrSalmon says, that possibility has been mentioned.

I went to France mountain biking in the Parc du Volcans for a week, pretty much zero coverage there. It was wonderful.

Preliminary tests apparently show no E residue, so mechanical failure most likely

Either way IS are able to take the piss as they know that plenty of people won’t trust the ‘official’ reports of either Russia or Egypt, with their reputation for press freedom etc

    IS audio…

we downed it so die in your rage.

We are under no obligation to explain how it came down,
Bring the wreckage and search it, bring your black boxes and analyse them, and tell us the results of your investigation.
Prove that we didn’t bring it down, and how it came down. We will detail how it came down at the time of our choosing

    From the BBC

    ?
Flights from Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh to the UK have been delayed amid concerns that the Russian jet was brought down by an “explosive device”.
All flights due to leave the holiday resort for Britain this evening are affected, to allow UK experts to assess security, Downing Street said.
A Number 10 spokesman said delays had been brought in because “more information has come to light”.
Russian Airbus 321 crashed on Saturday, killing all 224 people on board
