I have been offered a good deal from LBS on an upgrade to this from my current mechanical 12 speed XO1 Eagle. I quite fancy it as already have a Reverb AXS. Bike is a 10 month old Levo SL.

Any real world opinions ?

yeah its good, does what it says on the tin. Not going to be world changing, but give nice clean shifts everytime, and gets rids of cables.

If you've already got an axs reverb and you can afford the axs gears, then you may as well do it.

Did exactly that and went from mechanical X01 Eagle to GX AXS and prefer it overall. The shift is more consistent, takes less effort and it looks way cleaner. Not sure whether it's because the mech is so heavy or the clutch isn't as strong as mechanical, but I have noticed a bit more chain slap than mechanical, but that's the only niggle I have really. Battery life is great, I got around 200 miles from a the first charge and it was still not flashing to say it had less than 10% battery. If you can afford it, get it!

Seems to be very good and I can't really see any difference between this and the more expensive kit, but that isn't considering longevity as it is too new.

I've had a few rides on my Eagle GX AXS now and the best compliment I can give it is that it's "boring".

What I mean by that is it just gets on with the job and there's never any hesitation or drama, just clean, crisp shifting all the time!

Love mine 🙂

i'd agree with the above sentiment..

Only been on one ride, but I really like the fact that the shift from gear 2 to1 is as 'easy and fast' as it is from 8-7, for example. Normally, despite being well set up, there's always a bit of 'hesitation adn extra effort needed' to shift to teh largest cog. With AXS, it just gets on with it.

Is it worth 5 times as much as a normal GX set up... Nah! But if you want AXS, this is teh best way to get it..

I've had it on my bike for about a month now and it is superb. Crisp clean shifting every time. I've ridden in some pretty awful conditions lately and its never missed a beat. I particularly like the way you can configure a long press to shift a certain number of gears. I've configured mine to shift three gears and its amazing how often I use it.

I went from XX1 MechanEagle to GX AXS and it's rather good. Pretty much the sentiments as above. Only bought it as I has the funds from the sale of a bike I never used.

I did by the updated paddle which is loads better than the supplied one, and debating on fitting the carbon/alloy cage off of my XX1 mech - should just bolt straight on.

I get about 2 weeks between a full charge and solid red light for the battery life. I have ridden every day since getting it 14 April.

I have used the x01/xx1 version and they work really well. Just for the price though the clutch wear is not acceptable. Basically very little tension left on both my late 2020 AXS mechs. I keep going back to my XTR 1x11 that came with my capra CF. That paired with E13s 9-46. A solid summer setup with no fuss.

Do you mean the cluth is the same across the GX vs GX AXS or across GX AXS vs X01 AXS? Id always though X01 has a better clutch then GX and this would continue across the AXS range?

Ok mech and shifter sold.

Damn stuff does sell quick at the moment! I delayed picking up the Tweaks deal on X01 AXS and now they're sold out of X01 and X01 AXS! Hoping one of them will come back in later in the year.

I've been using XX1 AXS for a few weeks - in all honesty its taking a while to get used to

I'm getting that problem of everything being set-up perfectly apart from the jocky wheel can get out of sync and the chain can sometimes ride on top of the cassette teeth in the 42/52 sprockets - I can only guess maybe have a further play with the b-tesion even though its set as it should be at sag

Sure I'll get used to it - but for the moment I am missing the perfect shifting I had with my battered mechanical GX set-up

The chain riding on top of the cog has always been chain length for me. Typically happens when the chain is too short.

Did it on mechanical GX too until I sorted the chain.

Thats clearly not right - it should be absolutely perfect shifting without question. There is a fault somewhere in your setup.

I had a wonky derailluer hanger (that I wasnt aware of ) when I first fitted axs to my bike, just couldnt get it to shift cleanly. Eventually I discovered a slightly bent hanger, put a new one on and the shifting was instantly perfect.

Its the opposite as far as I know, no orders above £135. Just ordered one and it's on its way.  Postage hurts, but I couldn't get one in the UK

Yes...it is a standard charging device for the SRAM batteries...unsure what is unisex about it as I'd have thought it was either positive or negative if you asked it a question on what gender it was!

Thanks.

I do have a spare chain (Brexit/Covid etc planning) - might try this tonight....one link at a time

I’d been very pleased with my XX1 AXS rear mech, bought in January 2020 when they were the same price at the GX version is now. However, today it cut my ride short when it stopped working. On inspection one of the spring loaded battery contacts is no longer spring loaded. Hoping to get it replaced under warranty, but that could be tricky as I bought it from a German show that doesn’t sell to the UK anymore.

mine can do this in the stand, LBS spoke to SRAM about it yesterday as mechanic, who I know and trust, couldn't work it out - B tension correct, microshifting correct, hanger and chain length fine (unchanged from when on mechanical. SRAM say it's a known issue, something to do with the tooth configuration on the biggest 2 sprockets and that while it can happen on some bikes when in the stand it won't happen when under load, i.e when riding. I have ridden it twice now and not noticed it happening when riding.

Re: the chain riding.

I think it could be an alignment issue. I had this problem a couple of weeks ago and 'fixed it' by moving the chain along half a link.

Not sure why it worked, but it did. I think it might have been due to the profile of the teeth and the narrow wide chain.

Or voodoo.

Well, first issue with my GX AXS mech, the clutch has seemingly died according to the LBS, will send off for warranty. I thought something was odd as the Spur was a super quiet bike but the chain has been rattling around like no ones business for the last few weeks, even extra sound deadening around the frame didn't help... Good job I kept a mechanical GX derailleur/shifter as spares!
