I’m building up a rear wheel to replace the one on my commuter.

It’s going to be a while before I can use it again, and I figured building up a wheel would be a good way to pass the time, rather than spending it reading terrifying accounts of CV19.

Anyway, I’ve got a Hope Tech XC 29er rim, which now that I look at some of the reviews, has a habit of cracking.

I was just going to use Sapim Race spokes, but I wondered whether if I go to some thinner ones (e.g. D-light) it would put less strain on the rim.

    Thoughts?

I’ve rebuilt a couple of these in 29” size. Never had a problem. Used Sapum laser spokes and I think I can get more tension than I can when I’ve done Crest rims because the Hope rim has eyelets.

Thanks, Sapim lasers is a good suggestion.

My faves are sapim D-lights with polyax nipples, sapims nips can handle spoke angles better, the added bonus with D-lights is that they can be 2mm too long and not bind down because they’re thinner after the thread, and theyre stronger than their standard spoke.
