I’ve just fitted some Middleburn RS7 cranks to my bike, with the chainring in the outer position the resulting chainline means that I now need to put the rear cog quite far out on the freeheub (see pics). My question is whether or not this has any effect on stiffness/power transfer/freehub stress and wear on bearings.

I could move the chainring to the middle position, or, at some expense, buy a different spider, with, I assume, a 50mm chainline.

If anyone has any ideas I’d be very pleased. Ta

Shorter BB axle and move the chainring to the middle position.

    Use middle ring position.

+1 for the middle ring position, that’s how i always build mine even if it doesn’t look quite right.

On the other hand it probably makes very little difference to the freehub unless it’s really badly designed.

That is ok. Nothing wrong with that.

I use the middle position at the front… Keeps the chain a bit further from my jeans.
