    Hey,

Does anyone have a Shimano EP8 eBike motor, and have the rattle?

Have you found a fix for it?

    Cheers!

Probably won’t help you much but Nico Voulloz took his apart and did all sorts of things to quieten his down.
There’s a Pink Bike article (I think on it from a while ago).

The Shimano rattle is a known thing that everyone seems to complain about (same as their wandering bite point) but Shimano have never admitted to it being a problem. I found it annoying on the one I had a go on.

I had a demo on one yesterday.

TBH by the end of the ride I’d already zoned the noise out.

There is no ‘fix’ because it’s not broken. I don’t notice mine really anymore.

Hmm. I’d argue anything that’s rattling is broken. It may be designed like that, but that’s a broken design.

Considering we do things like put chainslap protection on, and foam on the inside of tubes for internal cables, and cable clips to stop rattles – it’s a pretty stupid design to build IN a rattle.

The rattle is apparently the clutch inside the motor. I don’t even notice it on mine

Perfectly normal. Bosch motors do it as well. The tolerances in the motor have to be a little slacker than they would in an automotive one due to the lack of power. I quite like my ep8 rattle now.

In a Hope / CK hub kind of way? When I replaced my Pro2 hubs for DT 240s I really didn’t like it, it felt like I was riding chainless and couldn’t judge my speed as well!

Mine sounds like a bag of spanner’s being thrown down the stairs but it seems to be a trait of them so it’s become a case of living with it.

If you watch Rob rides videos he does comparisons and all motors have some form of clutch rattle
    Some worse than others

I think that was roughly the way it was described when the motors were released, there is  a certain amount of “give” in order to reduce resistance compared to previous offerings, and that is what creates the rattle.
